    Business.gov.au have published nine tips for small business owners on improving their social media presence.

    Business.gov.au stated that their tips aim to help small businesses “create and maintain a strong social media presence.” Their nine tips are: knowing your audience, knowing where your customers are hanging out online, using a social media management tool, having the same username for all platforms, installing follow buttons on the business website, formatting content for each platform, looking for cross-promotional opportunities, offering exclusive content, and being relatable.

    In regards to knowing your audience, Business.gov.au emphasises that the better a small business knows their customers, the more they will appeal to them on social media, and recommends small business owners conduct research to get to know their customers.

    In regards to knowing where your customers are hanging out online, Business.gov.au emphasises that finding out which social media platform customers use will help small business owners target specific audiences that may be valuable. They suggest that finding out which platforms customers prefer to use can be done through a survey, research or asking customers directly.

    Business.gov.au also emphasise that using a social media management tool can make social media marketing easier for small businesses. They also recommend using the same username across all social media platforms and installing follow buttons on the website as this will make it easier for customers to identify the business and follow them on social media, respectively.

    Business.gov.au also recommends formatting content for each platform, such as formatting content to connect more with people or to share media. They also recommended looking for opportunities to engage with other businesses and participate in cross promotion, as well as offering exclusive content to give customers a reason to follow a small business on social media.

    Business.gov.au’s final recommendation was to keep things simple by being relatable.
