Horizon Power has trialed managing electricity efficiency by remotely turning off air conditioning for short periods in fifteen homes across Broome, Western Australia. The study, called the Smart Sun Pilot, found that none of the residential participants felt any change in their temperature comfort. While managing demand helps protect the power grid from instability, the power retailer will continue the trial for another year before furthering any commitments to offer remote management of residential homes across regional WA.
