question-965083_640

The Fair Work Ombudsman have launched a new education resource–The Workplace Basics Quiz.

The Fair Work Ombudsman states that the Workplace Basics Quiz focuses on helping employers and employees check and improve their knowledge of workplace rights and compliance with workplace obligations.

The Workplace Basics Quiz consists of multiple choice questions focusing on seven core topics: pay and awards, disputes and grievances, record keeping and pay slips, flexible work and work life balance, termination (including redundancy), leave and types of employment.

All of the questions focus on key areas under the seven core topics and ask questions through a wide range of scenarios. After a question is answered, participants will be told whether there answer was right, maybe right, almost right or not right and will be provided feedback throughout the Quiz.

Under pay and awards, the questions focus on: minimum pay rates, awards and registered agreements, loadings, penalty rates, allowances, public holiday entitlements, meal breaks, unpaid work and student placement, deducting pay and stand down.

Under disputes and grievances, the questions focus on: workplace discrimination, general protections for employees, bullying and harassment, unfair dismissal and workplace dispute resolution mechanisms.

Under record keeping and pay slips, the questions focus on: pay slip requirements, what employee records need to be kept and how long they have to be kept for, requirements around issuing the Fair Work Information Statement and rights that employees have to access their records.

Under flexible work and work life balance, the questions focus on: who can request flexible working arrangements, how to make a request for flexible working arrangements, how to respond to a request for flexible working arrangements and what individual flexibility arrangements are.

Under termination (including redundancy), the questions focus on: notice periods, unfair dismissal, what employees get in their final pay, when redundancy occurs and employee entitlements when there is a transfer of business.

Under leave, the questions focus on: types of leave, when employees can take different types of leave and how leave accumulates.

Under types of employment, the questions focus on: the differences between casual, full-time and part-time work, rostering requirements in awards, when it is reasonable to request an employee to work overtime and the difference between being an employee and an independent contractor.

Once an employee or employer has answered all of the Workplace Basics Quiz questions, they have the option of printing or saving their results and/or a Certificate of Completion and completing a survey.
