Last week, RACCA Australia published an article on Business.gov.au’s tips for resolving supplier disputes. Now Business.gov.au have published an article providing tips for business owners on how to change suppliers.
The article states that business owners need suppliers who can provide them with the right goods and services at the right price within the right timeframes. However the article also states that there may be times where a business owner needs to consider or outright change their suppliers. The article emphasises that changing suppliers is a big decision and isn’t one to be taken lightly.
The article provides a list of possible reasons why a business owner could or should change suppliers. The reasons include but are not limited to: finding another supplier that’s better value for money, having to cut costs, finding a supplier that fits the needs of the business, the supplier’s business is closing and/or a supplier contract is due to expire.
The article also provides a checklist of what business owners need to consider before they change suppliers. The checklist provides several tips, including but not limited to: checking current leases and contracts for exit clauses and penalties, considering how changing suppliers would affect the business, making sure the new supplier’s services would be beneficial to the business and that business owners are aware of product safety obligations.
