Heatcraft have commenced distributing R422D, which has been developed to replace R22 as a near “drop in” solution.
According to Heatcraft’s media release, R422D is ideal for users who wish to retain their existing equipment and it offers a distinct financial advantage over the alternate “drop in” R438A, with up to 40% lower list price.
The media release also states that R422D is “suited to low and medium temperature refrigeration systems and can be used with mineral oil (MO) or alkyl benzene (AB) in most commercial systems.” However the media release also states that changing to polyester lubricants (POE) is highly recommended.
Heatcraft have made comparisons between R22 and R422D in their media release, specifically that R422D has a higher mass flow and lower discharge temperature than R22.
The media release also states that R422D is non-ozone depleting, and A1 ASHRAE classified. Applications for R422D include: supermarket display cases, food preservation and food processing, ice machines, unitary air conditioning, and chillers without flooded exchangers.
