Today is the International Day of People with Disability.
Held on December 3 every year. International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations sanctioned day to increase awareness, acceptance and understanding, as well as celebrate the achievements of people with disability.The Australian Government has been supporting International Day of People with Disability since 1996.
To celebrate and raise awareness, there are events happening all over the country ranging from art festivals, parties, Lights Ups and picnics to workshops and seminars.There will be an online forum at 2pm, Enabled Employment – Disability Employment Forumwhich will involve workers in the disability sector and/or people with a disability to answer questions and guest post.
The National Disability Awards are also held every year in conduction with the International Day to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of individuals and organisations who have improved the lives of people with disability. This year’s Awards were held on November 25th in the Great Hall at Parliament House.
