AIRAH has released the sixth edition of its Technical Handbook. The Technical Handbook was first published in May 1989, and has long been considered the “go-to resource” for those working in the HVAC&R industry. Over the past 30 years, AIRAH members have helped develop, review, and curate the content.
“The Technical Handbook is AIRAH’s flagship technical publication,” says AIRAH CEO Tony Gleeson, M.AIRAH. “It represents the combined knowledge and insights of more than 40 leading AIRAH members and the HVAC&R community – all in one resource.
“It has been developed by HVAC&R practitioners for HVAC&R practitioners to use in the field.”
Gleeson says the Handbook’s easy-to-use and logical structure makes it ideal for all HVAC&R practitioners.
“It goes beyond just making a conclusion based on the data presented, and gives real-world considerations and insights to support high-quality work,” he says.
The Handbook summarises the key components of AIRAH’s Design Application (DA) manuals. The new edition is the result of a comprehensive review in 2020.
According to the editor of the Technical Handbook, Vince Aherne, F.AIRAH, every edition of the Handbook builds on the previous one.
“The improvement of the Technical Handbook is forever ongoing,” he says. “This edition incorporates a great deal of new data for members.”
The sixth edition includes new and updated information on the following topics:
- Design data
- Climate data in appendix K and on the website
- Air distribution
- Thermal comfort
- Residential cooling analysis
- Particulate air filters
- Maintenance of HVAC&R
- Noise and vibration
- Refrigerants
AIRAH members are able to purchase the hard copy for $149, and access the Handbook digitally. Non-members are invited to purchase a one-year AIRAH membership and the Handbook for $574, and save $35 on a one-year Affiliate membership.
