Nominations open for Australian Training Awards

Award

Nominations are open for this year’s Australian Training Awards.

Business.gov.au states that the Australian Training Awards are “national awards for the vocational education and training (VET) sector that recognise excellence in training and development in Australia.”

Applications are open for five business and two Registered Training Organisation (RTO) categories. The five business categories are: Small Employer of the Year, Medium Employer of the Year, Large Employer of the Year, Australian Apprentices–Employer, and Industry Collaboration. The two RTO categories are: School Pathways to VET and International Training Provider of the Year.

The Australian Training Awards’ official website states that the Small Employer of the Year Award “recognises a small business that employs 19 or fewer full-time equivalent employees, and has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.”

The Medium Employer of the Year Award “recognises a medium business that employs 20 or more, but less than 200 full-time equivalent employees, and has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.” Only employers who won their category at the State or Territory Training Awards are eligible to apply for this national award.

The Large Employer of the Year Award ” recognises a large business that employs 200 or more full-time equivalent employees, and has achieved excellence in the provision of ‘nationally recognised training’ to its employees.” As with the Medium Award, only employers who won their category at the State or Territory Training Awards are eligible to apply for this national award.

The Australian Apprenticeships–Employer Award “recognises employers who have made innovative improvements in training which provide beneficial outcomes for their apprentices and/or trainees in Australia and to their local community.”

The Industry Collaboration Award “recognises an exemplary skills development collaboration between at least one employer/industry body and at least one organisation delivering nationally recognised training.” Only winners of the aligned category at the State or Territory Awards are eligible to apply for this award.

The School Pathways to VET Award “recognises eligible organisations including schools, registered training organisations (RTOs), group training organisations, industry bodies and employers that have collaboratively delivered one (or more) excellent vocational education and training (VET) programs to secondary school students.”

The International Training Provider of the Year Award “recognises a registered training organisation that has demonstrated outstanding achievement in all aspects of vocational education and training to full-fee paying international students in Australia and overseas.”

Business.gov.au also states that winning an Australian Training Award can help businesses be recognised as a national leader in training and development, attract and keep quality staff, and improve its reputation.

Closing dates for nominations vary by state and territory, however the winners will be announced at the Australian Training Awards ceremony in Sydney on November 15.
