Nominations open for J&E Hall International Gold Medal

Nominations have opened for the J&E Hall International Gold Medal, an internationally respected award in the field of refrigeration.

The J&E Hall International Gold Medal recognises and encourages progress rather than just acknowledge past achievements in the field. The progress is recognised, encouraged and awarded in one or more of the following areas—practical applications of innovative designs, projects which have made an original contribution to the field, systems which demonstrate substantial potential (and evidence that they will be completed successfully) and outstanding and significant work in a new or unusual area.

Last year’s winner, Professor Ruzhu Wang of Shanghai Jiao Tong University won for his work in research and application of heat pumps using low grade heat sources, recognising that his work provided a wide range of practical innovations for heating and cooling for both buildings and other applications.

Previous winners have won the award in a wide variety of areas, including but not limited to: practical application of infrared single-photon detector technology in closed-cycle refrigerator systems, technology transfer related to food refrigeration and efficiency research, jet pump cycle technology and carbon dioxide compressor development.

The winner will be awarded the J&E Hall Gold Medal to hold for one year, a solid silver replica of the medal engraved with his/her name to keep and 5000 pounds. This year, the Award is in its 37 year and will be presented at the 115th Institute of Refrigeration Annual Dinner in London in February 2015.

Even though the Institute of Refrigeration is based in the UK, as the Award is international and therefore internationally respected, nominations are open from all over the world. The contribution and/or achievement that are being nominated for the Award must be supported by evidence.

You can find more information on the J&E International Gold Medal, past winners and download a copy of the nomination form here. Nominations close on October 15.
