This month is National Safe Work Month.

The aim of National Safe Work Month is to encourage people to get involved in and concentrate on workplace safety to reduce disease, injury and death.

Safe Work Australia’s CEO and 2015 Safety Month Ambassador, Michelle Baxter stated in its media release that “National Safe Work Month provides an opportunity for us all to focus on health and safety in our workplaces and to drive lasting improvements.”

This year’s theme for National Safe Work Month is Be safe. Be healthy. Because… the theme has deliberately been left open so everyone can add their own personal reasons for why being safe and healthy at work is important to them.

There will be a range of facilities available and activities happening around the country this month. These facilities include the Safety Month App, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the App has a complete list of health and safety events on this month, as well as statistics and facts. Activities that are happening around the country this month include safety events and the Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series.

The Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series is a key event for National Safe Work Month. The Seminar Series are free events all month long featuring online videos, presentations and discussions on a variety of workplace topics. These topics include but are not limited to: becoming a mentally healthy small business, effective return to work co-ordination, minimising muscloskeletal disorders and working safely with chemicals.

Employers and employees are also encouraged to attend a safety event/s, enter the Safety Month Workplace Participation Reward and/or become a safety ambassador.
