This week is Stay Smart Online Week.

Kicking off yesterday and concluding on Friday, Stay Smart Online Week is dedicated to raising awareness about online safety and security. This year’s theme focuses on online safety and security in businesses–Your Business is YOUR Business.

Business.gov.au emphasises the fact that businesses hold a lot of sensitive data and information that hackers would like to access and ask business owners to consider the consequences of the data and information being stolen. The data and information that hackers could access if it is not accurately secured can include: customer records & personal information, financial records, business plans and intellectual property.

The Stay Smart Online official website provides extensive information on how to stay smart online for both business owners and the general public. The information on offer includes: a free internet alert service on online threats and how to deal with them, an online safety small business guide, how to protect and secure computers & mobile devices, protecting your identity, using social media & making online payments safely and cyberbullying. The website also provides a survey for Stay Smart Online Week for business owners to get an insight on exactly how effective their cyber safety practices are for their business.

More information on Stay Smart Online week can be found here.
