MYOB have published an article providing details on 10 ways to succeed in the impending new financial year.
MYOB’s tips specifically focus on ways for business owners and their employees to set themselves up for success. These ten ways are: setting clear goals and targets, making monthly action plans, reviewing customers, asking for feedback, booking a holiday, refreshing the business’ website, reviewing/implementing a social media strategy, picking a training workshop for the year, sorting through emails, and identifying highlights and lowlights.
In regards to setting clear goals and targets, MYOB emphasises that the benefit of doing so includes sharpening focus and delivering better results. MYOB also recommends setting some SMART (specific, measure, achievable and realistic) goals.
In regards to making monthly action plans, MYOB recommends this goes hand-in-hand with setting clear goals and targets.
In regards to reviewing customers, MYOB recommends businesses take stock of their performance by reviewing the customers they attracted over the financial year.
In regards to asking for feedback, MYOB emphasises that good businesses are always looking to improve for their customers and to be able to improve, businesses need to ask their customers for feedback.
In regards to booking a holiday, MYOB recommends that business owners and their employees recommend booking a holiday now to take a break before the new financial year. Booking now gives business owners and their employees plenty of warning to let their customers know of the break, and can provide extra motivation when back at work.
In regards to refreshing the business’ website, MYOB recommends that business owners read through their website and update any outdated information.
In regards to reviewing/implementing a social media strategy, MYOB recommends that business owners take the time to review how their social media strategy has performed over the last year, and for those who don’t have a strategy, MYOB emphasises that now is the right time to implement one.
In regards to picking a training workshop for the year, MYOB recommends that business owners pick at least one relevant training program in their area or through their industry for them and their staff to attend.
In regards to sorting through emails, MYOB recommends starting the new financial year with a clean slate and a clean inbox and archiving the previous years’ emails.
In regards to identifying highlights and lowlights recommends looking back at the financial year and identifying things that worked well and things that could be improved on, to prevent repeating mistakes.
