ACHR News have published an article on strategies for contractors to grow and improve their businesses.
The article has been published in the lead up to the Northern Hemisphere summer where, much like here in Australia, refrigeration and air conditioning services will be in high demand. The article emphasises that HVAC companies require constant investments to keep afloat, with several contractors interviewed about what investments they would be focusing on in the summer months.
The article focuses specifically on investments in online presence, reviews and referrals, and training and recruiting.
In regards to investing in an online presence, the article emphasises that contractors have multiple opportunities to increase their online presence, and choosing the proper channel is crucial. The article states that Google and Facebook are the lead contenders of digital advertising, with 16 million local business pages established on Facebook over the last four years. Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is also a form of online marketing that is becoming popular in the U.S HVAC industry.
In regards to investing in reviews and referrals, the article emphasises that reviews “give contractors a chance to spotlight why their businesses are superior, connect with customers, heap praise, and learn how and where they need to improve.” The article also emphasises that consumers frequently visit review sites to learn more about businesses before hiring them and that contractors can strength their positive reviews with referral programs. Referral programs offer rewards to consumers for engaging with a company, such as coupons for future services or a restaurant gift card or even a donation to the charity of their choice.
In regards to training and recruiting, the article emphasises the fact that there is a shortage of technicians which has resulted in companies expanding their training and recruiting methods. These methods include reaching out to students finishing high school, students in trade schools, and even those who worked for competitors and are out of state. The contractors who were interviewed also stated that they are trying to recruit more women into the industry. The article also emphasised the importance of constantly training technicians as technology and policies are always changing.
