ACR Trainee of the Year Award winners announced

Award

The winners of the ARC Trainee of the Year Awards were announced last week.

The annual ARC Trainee of the Year Awards, which marked it’s fifth year this year and were held at The Belfry, near Sutton Coldfield, aims to appeal to young people in the industry, encourage young trainees and apprentices, as well as support the specialist training centres that provide trainees and apprentices with the skills they need.

This year marked the first time that the ARC Trainee of the Year Awards had two categories for entrants to reflect on their roles–On the Tools and Off the Tools–in their industry.

The winner of this year’s Off the Tools Award was Jay Sheffield from Arctic Circle due to his professional and comprehensive application as well as for catering to his customers’ needs.

The winner of this year’s On the Tools Award was Ben Moulson from Adcock Refrigeration Air Conditioning due to his hard work, extensive technical training and several good references from customers, tutors and supervisors.

There were also Highly Commended Off the Tools and On the Tools Awards presented. Julie Pringle from Mitsubishi Electric and Joe Conroy from Trane UK were the winners of these awards respectively. Pringle won due to her strong application, excellent references and determination and willingness to learn. Conroy won due to getting into the UK finals for WorldSkills and his potential as a hands-on engineer. As well as Highly Commended, there were also Special Recognition Off and On the Tools Awards which went to David Ball from Air Creation and Nathan Ormson from Toshiba respectively.

There were also four other finalists who were presented with a certificate and a set of Pump Horse Pumps tools.

The Awards are judged by people who have had various extensive experience in the industry. This year’s judges were Will Hawkins (Editor of ACR Today), Jody Lees (from LG Air Conditioning), John Smith (from Dean & Wood) and Catarina Marques (from Adande).
