A rooftop fire caused by a heating, air conditioning and ventilation closet, forced employees to spend an hour to evacuate from the 21-storey Louisiana Tower in Shreveport yesterday.
According to a report from Shreveporttimes, the fire in a heating, air conditioning and ventilation closet triggered a smoke alarm and sprinkler systems. The sprinklers doused the flames, said Fred Sanders, a Shreveport Fire Department spokesman.
Water from the sprinklers cascaded down elevator shafts before firefighters shut off the sprinklers.
Sanders said fire investigators are examining the heating and air conditioning equipment to determine exactly how the fire started.
He said it’s up to the building managers to decide when workers will return to their offices.
Luckily, no one was injured during the evacuation. Employees headed back inside the building about 1:30 p.m. after getting the all-clear from building management.
