AIRAH will be holding four industrial ammonia refrigeration courses this year.
The three courses are: Industrial Ammonia Plant Operations, Ammonia Emergency Response, Ammonia Safety Awareness and Energy Efficient Industrial Refrigeration.
The Industrial Ammonia Plant Operations Course is suitable for refrigerant plant operators who need to be aware of potential hazards associated with ammonia and what to do in an emergency. This course runs over three days covering key topics such as refrigeration systems, compressor, lubricants and safety and legal requirements for ammonia refrigerant. This course is designed for plant operators, filters & turners, electricians, boiler makers and any contractors who have not worked with ammonia. This course is being held in Melbourne and Perth. In Melbourne, the course is being held from May 11-13 and September 16-18 at a cost of $2,200 for AIRAH members and $2,800 for non-members. In Perth, the course is being held from April 13-15 at cost of $3,500 for both AIRAH members and non-members.
The Ammonia Emergency Response course is recommended to complete as an extension to the Industrial Ammonia Plants Operation Course or for those who want or need knowledge of what to do in an emergency on-site. This is course runs for one day in Melbourne cover key topics such as chemistry of ammonia, legislative framework, breathing appartus & chemical suits and emergency planning. This course is designed for plant managers & operators as well as maintenance contractors and refrigeration mechanics. This course is being held on May 15 and September 14 at a cost of $800 for AIRAH members and $900 for non-members.
The Ammonia Safety Awareness course is only available to be conducted on-site and has been designed specifically for non-plant and refrigeration staff to work in or around an industrial ammonia plant. The kind of staff that this course has been designed for include: OHS team members, forklift drivers, stores personnel, meat workers and administration staff. This course runs for one day and covers key topics such as what is ammonia, how does ammonia behave, regulations and standards, case studies of ammonia incidents and safety alerts.
The Energy Efficient Industrial Refrigeration course identifies and discusses best practices for making temperature-controlled warehouses and cooling, chilling and freezing within food processing and other facilities, more energy efficient. This is course is designed for plant engineers, supervisors and managers as well as facility and sustainability managers. Dates and costs for this course are yet to be announced.
