The Australian Food Cold Chain Council (AFCCC) has been established.
According to a report by Climate Control News (CCN), the AFCCC was established at a meeting in Queensland earlier this month, and brought together a “cross section of executives in manufacturing, food transport, refrigeration and cold chain services.”
The report also states that the AFCCC aims to “find a solution and encourage innovation, compliance, waste reduction and safety across the Australian food chain.”
AFCCC Interim Chair, Mark Mitchell, from SuperCool Australia Pacific Pty Ltd, stated to CCN that the new Council is about changing an industry for the better rather than promoting it. Mitchell stated that one of the Council’s priorities will be to apply necessary pressure in the industry and government to ensure the existing Standards for cold chain food handling are met.
The report also stated that the Council’s other top priorities include: contributing to the development of the National Food Waste Strategy and becoming part of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) designed to address food waste and fraud.
