RACCA President’s CCN Live Speech

HVACR Awards

RACCA President, Kevin O’Shea, gave a speech at CCN Live yesterday.

CCN Live is Climate Control News’ annual half-day conference for HVACR industry professionals. This year’s theme was “Trade Talk: The Way Forward” which, according to Climate Control News, focused on “a wide range of real-world issues that will impact you and your business over the next few years.” This year’s CCN Live conference also aimed to equip attendees with need-to-know insights and information to strengthen the HVACR trade, and brief them on the latest industry developments.

This year’s program consisted of an opening address focusing on the HFC phasedown and the amendments to the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act, and speeches in two sessions–one focusing on trade talk, the other on the “way forward”.

The trade talks were given by ARC CEO, Glenn Evans, ARC Training Manager, Noel Munkman, and RACCA President, Kevin O’Shea. Evans’ speech outlined what’s next for licensing and presented a licensing blueprint for the future, Munkman’s speech outlined training priorities and a new training framework for the industry, and Kevin’s speech focused on VET reforms and upskilling the RAC workforce.

Specifically, Kevin’s speech reflected on the content of past refrigeration and air conditioning trade courses, and outlined the effects of competency based training on the industry, the inconsistencies of state-by-state licensing, the current issues with TAFE training, and the training required for using low GWP refrigerants.

The “way forward” talks were given by Refrigerants Australia Executive Director, Greg Picker, Refrigerant Reclaim Australia General Manager, Michael Bennett, and AMCA Executive Director, Graham Mackrill. Picker’s speech focused on the impacts of the HFC phasedown on the industry, Bennett’s speech focused on industry research and future frameworks, and Mackrill’s speech focused on the new environment for contractors and what moving forward means for them.

The program also included the winners of the HVACR Leadership Awards being announced.
