The Queensland Government have established an online register to make it easier to find local and licensed contractors to start repair works in cyclone-affected areas.
In a joint statement released by herself, and Minister for Housing and Public Works, Mick de Brenni, Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, stated that the construction industry was gearing up to help with the recovery of cyclone affected homes and communities.
“To make sure you can find reliable tradies, Housing and Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni has ensured that the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has established a central online register of licensed trade contractors.
“This register will indicate the towns and cities where tradies will be available for cyclone repairs, and the locations where contractors are based.”
Mr de Brenni stated that it was important to use licensed contractors for repair works, to ensure the work being done was completed safely and complies with relevant standards.
“If you check the QBCC website and don’t find the contractor listed, call the QBCC on 139 333 to confirm if the contractor is appropriately licensed.
“Getting repairs done quickly is important to get communities back on their feet, and supporting local businesses where possible is also a part of that. Where possible, I encourage residents to consider using local contractors and the QBCC register will assist you to select a local if you’re able to.”
Tradespeople who are available to work in cyclone affected areas should let the QBCC know by emailing cyclonedebbie@qbcc.qld.gov.au.
