Daikin Industries Ltd has published their policy on their actions on dealing with the environmental impact of refrigerants.
Their policy states that “we (Daikin Industries Ltd) are constantly mindful of the environmental and climate change impact of our products and we are committed to delivering cost-effective solutions to meet these challenges.”
Their policy also emphasises that Daikin believes in the diversity of refrigerant choice and outlines their efforts of reducing the environmental impact of a refrigerant throughout its life cycle. Their efforts mainly revolving around conducting extensive evaluation of what is the appropriate refrigerant for each application.
The policy goes into detail of Daikin’s key consideration for an appropriate refrigerant, specifically four basic factors—safety, energy efficiency, environmental impact and cost-effectiveness.
Safety-wise, a refrigerant must be safe to use through the entire life cycle of the equipment, which includes: transport, storage, installation, use, servicing, recovery and recycling. Therefore hazards such as toxicity or flammability need to be evaluated.
In terms of energy efficiency, Daikin considers a refrigerant’s potential to improve energy efficiency of its equipment across an extreme range of climates. The environmental impact that they consider is the refrigerant’s ozone depleting and global warming potential. In terms of cost-effectiveness, Daikin aims to provide consumers’ access to affordable solutions to consumers as well as reduce environmental impact.
Their policy also goes into detail of Daikin’s efforts in achieving a sustainable refrigerant and equipment lifecycle and their expertise in reducing the environmental impact of HVACR equipment. It also goes into detail on the optimal refrigerant for different types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
