Construction is underway to transform a former golf course into a new GeoCommunity.
Australand Property Group bought the 38.5 hectare Ashlar Golf Course in 2011 and will transform it into Fairwater—a community of 800 new homes complemented with the features of the former golf course.
The new homes will range from two-to-four bedroom terrace, townhouse and freestanding houses. However what will make this community even more unique is its heating and cooling systems. Every one of the 800 new homes will contain GeoAir technology.
GeoAir technology cools the home by using the Earth’s temperature. A geothermal loop is installed anywhere between 40 to 80 metres underground. A refrigerant is distributed through the loop to cool or absorb heat based on the ground temperature. If the home needs to be cooled, the refrigerant will condense into a liquid and be circulated in the home by the internal fan coil. If the home needs to be heated, the geothermal loop will absorb the heat from the ground and circulate the vapour through the internal fan coil. As the geothermal loop acts as a condenser, there is no need for an external compressor, which is replaced by a heat pump.
GeoAir technology can save Fairwater’s future residents hundreds of dollars in energy costs, Australand is currently trialling GeoAir technology at their industrial Eastern Creeks project.
Over 1000 people have already expressed their interest in purchasing a home at Fairwater, The cost of the homes will range from $450,000 to $750,000. Fairwater will be launched in 2015.
