On Wednesday RACCA Australia published an article announcing that the tenth RAC Cooling Awards, the UK’s biggest industry event was being held that night. Now the winners have been listed by RAC (the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Magazine).
There were fifteen categories in total–Air Conditioning or Heat Pump Innovation of the Year, Air Conditioning or Heat Pump Product of the Year, Building Energy Project of the Year, End User of the Year, Environmental Collaboration of the Year, Industrial Project of the Year, International Achievement of the Year, Low Carbon Achievement, Marketing Campaign of the Year, National Retailer of the Year, Refrigeration Innovation–Component or Process, Refrigeration Innovation–System or Standalone, Refrigeration Product of the Year, Retail Project of the Year and the Resource Data Management Contractor of the Year.
The winner of the Air Conditioning or Heat Pump Innovation of the Year Award, which had nine nominees, was Advanced Engineering with The Imperial iManifold. The Imperial iManifold is the first iPhone, iPad and smart device compatible wireless digital refrigeration manifold, it wirelessly displays data and provides distance from target measurement, which takes out guesswork.
The winner of the Air Conditioning or Heat Pump Product of the Year Award, which also had nine nominees, was Daikin UK on behalf of Daikin Europe with the Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump. The Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump is a hybrid heat pump which is a combination of a high efficiency gas combi boiler and renewable energy air-to-water heat pump, which works in series meaning that the flow of one can feed into the return of the other, depending on the operating mode.
The winner of the Building Energy Project of the Year Award, which had eleven nominees, was Mitsubishi Electric & NHP Leisure Developments with their Kingston Heights Development. The Project involves the development of 137 new apartments which will be benefit from a heat pump system that harvests naturally stored energy from the River Thames.
The winner of the End User of the Year Award, which had four nominees, was Heineken. The winner of the Environmental Collaboration of the Year Award, which has five nominees, was Sainsbury’s and Supply Partners 20X20 Sustainability Plan. The winner of the Low Carbon Achievement Award, which had seven nominees, was Honeywell Fluorine Products Europe, with its Solstice Low GWP Refrigerants. Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer were joint winners and the only nominees for the National Retailer of the Year Award.
The winner of the Industrial Project of the Year, which had seven nominees, was IsoCool and Coveris Rigid UK with the Coveris Rigid UK Energy Saving Cooling Solutions project.
The winner of the International Achievement of the Year Award, which had eight nominees, was Airedale International Air Conditioning with the Modular Data Centre Solution for Vodacom Pty in South Africa. This Solution involved a robust, free-cooling modular data centre cooling system, which deliver energy savings by exploiting free-cooling opportunities. Each modular data centre cooling system contains various SmartCool units, which provide various stages of necessary cooling.
The winner of the Marketing Campaign of the Year Award, which had two nominees, was Stephen Gill Associates with their poster campaign, “Ópen the Eyes of Others–Refrigeration Technology Changes Lives.“. The campaign involved the spreading of thought-provoking and informative posters across social media, generating hundreds of thousands of likes and thousands of comments.
The winner of the Refrigeration Innovation–Component or Process Award, which had five nominees was Fridgesco for their Low-Carbon, Low Energy Flash Defrost System. The winner of the Refrigeration Innovation–System or Standalone Award, which had eight nominees was Carrier Transicold for their NaturaLINE refrigeration systems. The winner of the Refrigeration Product of the Year Award, which had nine nominees was ebm-papst UK for their AxiTop Diffuser.
The winner of the Retail Project of the Year Award, which had ten nominees was Mitsubishi Electric and Connells for the Connells R22 Replace Programme.The winner of the Resource Data Management Contractor of the Year Award, which had five nominees, was Adcock Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
Other awards were also handed out. The Convenience Retail Project of the Year Award went to the Epta Group and the Co-operative Group for their Co-operative Angel Square – Liquid Cooled CO2 system. The Fred Jamieson Award for Industry Achievement was posthumously awarded to Eddie Gitoes. The RAC Gold Award went to John Skelton and the Data Centre Cooling Impact Award went to Sudlows’ University of Portsmouth Data Centre.
Lyell Perks – Star Refrigeration – BEST/Grimsby College won the RAC National Student of the Year Award.
