Christmas is only thirteen days away (we know, where did that year go?) and many businesses will be having their Christmas parties soon, if they haven’t already.
Christmas parties are a lot of fun and are a great way to acknowledge the hard work of every employee, however there are a few things to keep in mind when organising and having your Christmas party. Business.gov.au have provided a few tips for employers and employees to make sure it all goes to plan, with an emphasis on health and safety and fringe benefits tax (FBT) implications.
Their health and safety tips include sending a friendly email to staff to remind them that while the Christmas party is a time for a bit of fun and to let your hair down off-the-clock, it is still a work function. Other big health and safety tips that business.gov.au have provided is a reminder that alcohol should be served responsibly and to make sure that all staff can get home safely.
Christmas parties for some businesses may mean paying the FBT, business.gov.au states that this generally isn’t required if you hosted the party on the business premises or keep the cost of the party to below $300 per person. Business.gov.au recommends considering the benefits of hosting the party at the premises, gift giving, who to invite and the cost of catering.
