The Federal Government has appointed Ian Hanger AM QC to assist with the mediation and settlement of compensation for families and small businesses affected by the Home Insulation Program.
Hanger oversaw the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program in his role as Commissioner, therefore his appointment provides continuity and ease for the families of the four men who died from working under the Program. According to a press release from Greg Hunt MP, Hanger’s understanding of the distress of the four families’ plus the hardship that insulation businesses have faced from the Program can provide confidence to both the families and affected businesses that the compensation process will be approached as he recommended. Hanger’s experience in over 3,000 mediations also provides confidence for the families and affected businesses.
The Federal Government will be releasing its full response to the Report of the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program by the end of the year. The full Report of the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program can be found here.
The Home Insulation Program ran from June 2009 until it was terminated in February 2010.
