UK HVACR industry body calls for more input in apprenticeship standards

The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board (ACRIB) is calling for further input in change to apprenticeship standards as standards are due to be replaced in 2017 by the UK Government.

This call for further input comes as The Institute of Refrigeration (IOR), which is the professional body representing the UK Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pump (RACHP) industry, have engaged with employers to start collaborating on developing new apprenticeship standards. The IOR has revealed twelve RACHP employers who will be involved in the design and development of these new apprenticeship standards. These twelve employers include Sainsbury’s, Daikin Air Conditioning UK and Mitsubishi Electric.

Proposed principles under the new apprenticeship standards and programmes include: having strong industry support from the ACRIB and trade associations, colleges & trainers involved from the beginning, a minimum of two years supervised training & practice, a final exam at the end of the apprenticeship and a diary of work evidenced and specified by an employer.

A summary of key requirements and attributes, as well as principles of assessment of the new apprenticeship standards will be submitted to the UK Government in early 2015.

More information on these new standards and principles can be found here.
