HVAC Optimisation Guide released

HVAC

The NSW Office of Environment & Heritage has released an extensive HVAC Optimisation Guide.

The Guide was developed and published in conjunction with AIRAH as part of an industry-government relationship. The Guide contains 20 HVAC optimisation strategies, complete with optimisation scenarios and tips, to improve a HVAC business’ energy efficiency.

The 20 HVAC optimisation strategies outlined in the Guide fall under four categories–system supervisory control optimisation, plant control parameter optimisation, ventilation & air flow optimisation and variable speed based optimisation. The Guide also provides suggestions on best practice HVAC operation & maintenance, how to maintain HVAC optimisation and other HVAC optimisation opportunities.

The Guide states that the 20 HVAC optimisation strategies outlined can save up to 50 percent of total HVAC energy use or up to 80 percent of energy use in individual HVAC components. The Guide is aimed at energy management consultants, technical service providers, building owners, building managers, facility managers, sustainability managers and building operators.

Throughout the Guide, statistics are provided on possible hot water energy reduction, chiller energy reduction, compressor energy reduction, compressor start-up energy reduction, energy reduction on outdoor pre-heating & cooling, energy reduction on car park ventilation fans, energy reduction on secondary chilled water pumps, energy reduction on condenser fans, energy reduction on chilled water pumps, as well as HVAC and total energy reduction. The types and amounts of energy reduction benefits that a HVAC business can reap from depends on the optimisation strategies they choose to implement.

As well as the HVAC Optimisation Guide, the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage are also holding an Energy Efficient training course for HVAC businesses. The course is being held in two modules–the first module is an introduction to energy efficient HVAC, the second module focuses on energy efficient HVAC optimisation, operation and maintenance strategies. The training course is being in Sydney next month.

The HVAC Optimisation Guide can be found and downloaded for free here. More information on the Energy Efficient training course for HVAC businesses, including where to register, can be found here.
