I love my local business competition launched

NSW Fair Trading Minister, Matthew Mason-Cox launched this year’s I love my local business competition this week.

The competition involves having consumers nominate a business that they love for the chance to win the People’s Choice Award. In return, consumers go into a draw for the chance to win one of six prizes valued at $250 each.

According to the NSW Fair Trading website, Mr Mason-Cox stated that the competition is a great way of celebrating positive relationships between consumers and small businesses and that small businesses are the backbone of the community.

The purpose of the competition is to promote businesses that provide a great service to consumers and the community. Last year’s winners were Upbeat Music Centre, Cafe Dov, Moruya Automotive Repairs, Fundies Wholefood Market, Pinned Up Hair Design, Eagle View Retreat and The Fast Lane Drive Thru Coffee. Upbeat Music Centre won the People’s Choice Award.

Upbeat Music Centre was one of the competition, as well as the People’s Choice Award winner due to their good customer service and providing care for music students.

Cafe Dov was a winner due to the owner, Tim Peterson growing herbs in the Cafe’s courtyard and encouraging his customers to do the same, as well as for helping The Wayside Chapel promote its rooftop garden. Moruya Automotive Repairs was a winner due to the owner, Warwick Gray and his head mechanic helping a customer’s daughter when her car broke down when she was visiting town straight away, while still meeting their regular customers needs.

Fundie’s Wholefood Market was a winner due to supplying locally sourced healthy food from local farmers and helping out other small businesses. Pinned Up Hair Design was a winner due to accepting gifts in lieu of money from customers who live in a disability community and for hosting a Shave for a Cure to raise money for cancer.

The Eagle View Retreat was a winner due to their great customer service, in particular for providing guests with picnic baskets for lunch after exploring the land around them and for providing a couple special attention when they visited on their honeymoon. The Fast Lane Drive Thru Coffee was a winner due to their great customer service, especially making sure that a customer’s coffee is just the way they like it, without keeping them waiting too long.
