The number of apprentices and trainees in-training has fallen by 2.9% – the highest drop in five years – compared to last year’s figures across the same period last year. With essential businesses such as electricity, gas, water and waste management, and wholesale trade escaping the dip in apprenticeships and traineeships, businesses in other industries have had to rely on the government’s JobKeeper and Supporting Apprentices and Trainees subsidy programs to offset the suspensions.
