International Institute of Refrigeration releases new technical guide

CO2 slider

The International Institute of Refrigeration have released a new technical guide: CO2 as a Refrigerant.

The new Guide, which was published late last year, is a first edition guide highlighting the application of carbon dioxide in supermarkets, industrial freezers, refrigerated transport, cold stores, ice rinks, chillers, air conditioning systems, data centres and heat pumps.

To highlight this expansive application of carbon dioxide, the Guide focuses on six main topics–thermophysical properties of carbon dioxide, exposure to carbon dioxide (safety precautions), carbon dioxide plant design, carbon dioxide applications, future prospects and standards and regulations.

The Guide was specifically written for design and development engineers needing instruction and inspiration, as well as non-technical experts who are looking for background information on specific carbon dioxide topics.

The Guide was written by Dr. Andy Pearson, Group Engineering Director at Star Refrigeration and a well-known expert in the field of carbon dioxide application. He has previously written the International Institute of Refrigeration’s technical guide on ammonia as a refrigerant.

A hard copy and electronic copy of CO2 as a Refrigerant can be purchased from the International Institute of Refrigeration’s bookshop. The hard copy costs 40 Euros (AUS$57) and the electronic copy costs 30 Euros (AUS$43).
