MEDIA RELEASE: ARC welcomes national licensing for electrical trades

Multi-head split system air conditioning equipment - 1

“The Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) warmly welcomes the Albanese Government’s announcement to design a national licensing scheme for electrical trades. ARC administers the national RAC licensing scheme on behalf of the Federal Government.
National licensing will allow electrical professionals to work seamlessly across state and territory borders without the need to reapply for separate licences or pay additional fees. ARC urges the inclusion of refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technicians with restricted electrical licences in the reform to ensure they can work across borders under the same licence.
RAC equipment accounts for over 24% of energy consumed in Australia and contributes more than 2% to the nation’s GDP. Allowing restricted electrical licence holders to work interstate will increase workforce mobility and help meet growing demand while contributing to net-zero emissions goals.
National electrical and communications associations (NECA) have long campaigned for this reform, and ARC fully supports it.
Glenn Evans, CEO of the Australian Refrigeration Council, said:
“This national licensing reform is a significant step forward, it’s crucial that restricted electrical licences be included in the reform to ensure flexibility and mobility across borders.”
ARC commends the Albanese Government for recognising the value of national licensing and calls for restricted electrical licence holders to be able to work interstate as part of the national framework.”
