The Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence aims to deliver the best practice training to apprentices and post-trade students, as well as address the current skill requirements in the industry and present job-ready workers who have been trained with the most current equipment and technology.
The Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence is located within the Integrated Technology Hub (ITH) of the Box Hill Institute of TAFE. The ITH opened late last yearand provides learning spaces for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing industries as well as the refrigeration and air conditioning industries.
The learning spaces in the Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence consists of teaching PODS (Professional Organisational Development) which are designed to provide a flexible way to deliver training to the apprentices and post-trade students. Actrol sponsored three of the refrigeration teaching PODs and stated on their website that the three refrigeration teaching PODS “provide twelve working refrigeration systems” as well as “Bitzer compressors, Tecumesch compressors, Actrol cabinet coolers, Emerson TX valves, Carel electronic expansion valves and Caste line components to provide four separate miniature cool rooms”. Williams Refrigeration also supplied equipment to some of the other refrigeration teaching PODS. According to Climate Control News, there are 30 refrigeration teaching PODS.
