SafeWork NSW have released a new video on ladder safety.

SafeWork NSW Inspector, Jason Wall, revealed in the three-minute video that SafeWork NSW investigates 100 serious incidents a year involving workers who have fallen off ladders. Most of these incidents have happened due to ladders being used incorrectly and have resulted in serious injuries, including but not limited to: dislocations, broken bones and severe lacerations, some incidents have also resulted in deaths.

Wall also stated that those working in construction, retail and building maintenance are most commonly injured, however he emphasised that any worker using a ladder is at risk of injury.

The video goes on to provide tips on how to improve ladder safety, which include: working mostly at ground level (if possible), choosing the right ladder, considering who is using the ladder and where, maintaining three points of contact and knowing the basics of ladder safety.

The release of the video coincides with the launch of SafeWork NSW’s new ‘Ladders’ page on their website, which can be viewed here.
