Information sessions will be held over the next month for employers, registered training organisations (RTOs), accredited certifiers and job service providers to explain the facts and policies of Smart and Skilled.
Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW vocational system, it provides people in NSW with the chance to gain valuable skills to find work and/or advance in their careers. This is possible by linking the NSW Government’s investment in training with vital jobs in the NSW economy, enabling a choice of training providers based on strong quality criteria and a new fee system and government subsidised courses.
School leavers over the age of 15 are eligible and are highly encouraged to participate. Smart and Skilled is being currently implemented, VET FEE-HELP loans became available from July 1 this year and an entitlement to government subsidised training from January 1 next year.
The information sessions will be held by NSW joint industry training advisory bodies and will have local department representatives in attendance. The information that will be provided will include competency based progressions and training plans related to Smart and Skilled.
The information sessions will be held across the state in Wagga Wagga, Tamworth, Bathurst, Dubbo, Bankstown, Parramatta, Wollongong, Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Ballina. The first information session will be held next Tuesday (11 November) and the last will be held on Thursday 4 December.
