This week is Mental Health Week

Yesterday, RACCA Australia published an article on Safe Work Australia Month, which involves educating employers, employees and the general public on how to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.

In related news, this week is Mental Health Week.

Mental Health Week officially commenced on October 4th and will conclude with a closing ceremony on World Mental Health Day on October 10. However each state and territory has its own theme, events and dates for how long its Mental Health Week lasts. Some states’ Mental Health Week’s started from October 5 and don’t end until October 12. Most states have events long after Mental Health Week.

Despite the varying dates of the start and end of Mental Health Week in each state and territory, World Mental Health Day is a marked day for global mental health awareness and advocacy.

The purpose of Mental Health Week is to raise awareness of mental health and overcoming the stigma of mental illness.

Today’s Mental Health Week events include but are not limited to: a Drug Aware Community Mental Health Day in Bunbury, Dabakarn Koorliny Wangkiny (Steady walking and talking together) at the Bob Blackburn Reserve, Music Feedback 2014 CD/DVD Regional Launch in Bunbury, Make a Move Towards Better Mental Health at Graylands Hospital, a Workplace Wellbeing Wednesday presentation in Perth and a Stress Less Fest at Curtin University.

Tomorrow’s events include a mixture of workshops, information days, yoga and entertainment.

The official Mental Health Week website can be found here.
