This month is Safe Work Australia Month.

The aim of Safe Work Australia Month is to encourage people to get involved in and concentrate on workplace safety to reduce disease, injury and death.

This year’s theme for Safe Work Australia Month is Work safe. Home safe which reminds us that the most important reason for making our workplace safe, is not at work at all.

There will be a range of facilities available and activities happening around the country this month. These facilities include the Safety Month App, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the App has a complete list of health and safety events on this month, as well as statistics and facts. Activities that are happening around the country this month include safety events and the Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series.

The Australian Strategy Virtual Seminar Series is a key event for Safe Work Australia Month. The Seminar Series is a free event all month long featuring online videos, presentations and discussions on a variety of workplace topics. These topics include but are not limited to: high performing sustainable workplaces & mental health, small business & responsive regulation, The Skeleton Project and Heads Up on Mental Health.

Employers and employees are also encouraged to attend a safety event/s, enter the Safety Month Workplace Participation Reward and/or become a safety ambassador.

Minister for Employment and Safety Ambassador, Senator Eric Abetz, launched Safe Work Australia Month last week stating that it and the activities involved throughout the Month will provide individuals, businesses and the general community a platform to start talking about work health and safety.

Senator Abetz also stated that 191 people lost their lives in a work-related incident last year.

Safe Work Australia’s official website and more information on workplace health and safety can be found here.
