Thousands attend National Rally for Renewables

RACCA Australia recently ran a story on the National Rally for Renewables being held last Friday.

Thousands of solar and renewable energy workers, businesses, solar owners and supporters attended the Rally. The Rally was held in metropolitan and rural areas across the country in every state and territory* outside the offices of various MPs and Senators ranging from Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s office in Manly, to Treasurer Joe Hockey’s office in North Sydney, to Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop’s office in Perth to Senator Zed Seselja’s office in Canberra.

According to the Rally’s website, the aim of the Rally is to address the possibility of the federal government trying to cut or axe the Renewable Energy Target (RET). The existing Target is for 20 percent of lower electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2020.

Employees from wind turbine tower manufacturers, the Australian Solar Council, Macarthur Wind Farm and the Clean Energy Council were in attendance at the Rally.

Member for Perth, Alannah McTiernan, Deputy Leader for the Nationals, Barnaby Joyce and Coalition MP Ann Sudmalis spoke to attendees at the Rally.

*Correction: In the previous RACCA Australia story on the National Rally for Renewables, there was the mention that the Rally was being held in each state and territory (except NT). However the Rally was also held in the Northern Territory at the Raintree Park in Darwin.
