Business.gov.au have provided tips to business owners to protect their businesses from cybercrime.
Business.gov.au defines cybercrime as “using computers to break the law.” Business.gov.au also states that identity theft, online scams and attacks on computer systems are common kinds of cybercrime.
Business.gov.au’s tips for business owners to protect their businesses from cybercrime include: limiting the amount of personal information that is posted online, installing security systems on technological devices, using strong passwords, learning how to avoid common scams, investigating credits cards or bills & services you receive that aren’t yours or you didn’t ask for, being alert for any unexplained bank transactions or missing mail, obtaining copies of credit reports and regularly downloading security updates.
Business.gov.au also recommends that any cybercrimes are reported to the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network (ACORN). ACORN is a nationwide initiative that allows the public to securely report cybercrime. ACORN was launched in November last year.
