To determine the health hazards associated with heatwaves across Australia, the University of Sydney has released a mobile app that collates a variety of real-time weather data.
Users of the HeatWatch app can get seven-day, 12-hour, and current heat risk forecasts for any Australian postcode. Moreover, it provides practical, scientifically supported guidance on staying cool based on risk level.
The app suggests doable actions that users can do, such drinking water (even if they’re not thirsty), staying moist, putting a wet towel around their neck with crushed ice, and submerging their feet in cold water. With the ability to create up to three accounts, users may care for both themselves and vulnerable loved ones.
