This week is National Skills Week.

The purpose of National Skills Week, which is in its sixth year is to “recognise, celebrate and inform students and the wider public of the diversity, benefits and career pathways associated with Vocational Education and Training (VET)”. This year’s theme is New World, New Vision, Your Future.

According to the official website, this year’s National Skills Week, which kicks off today and concludes on Sunday, will “set out to bring to life the positive messages, highlighting the talents, the career pathways and the value of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers.”

The official website also states that the objectives of National Skills Week are to co-ordinate a nationwide celebration of vocational qualifications, highlight opportunities for minority groups such as Indigenous Australians and workers with disabilities, encourage women to get into non-traditional trades, to engage with prospective employers of apprentices and trainees, and to focus on success stories.

Multiple events are being held across the country this week ranging from college tours, workshops, expos and “try-a-skill/trade days” which are being offered at a variety of technical colleges.

More information on National Skills Week can be found here.
