Nine HVAC associations across the globe have joined forces to create an international policy on retrofitting and to warn against refrigerant misuse.
The policy focuses on: acknowledging that the nine HVAC associations represent manufacturers, recognising that appropriate refrigerants can vary by application, the increased safety and environmental risks of refrigerants that are not designed for a particular use, call on the service industry to act and encourage governments to work with the industry to make the public aware of these facts and to regulate.
According to their policy, the associations “represent manufacturers who are committed to a healthful environment and who produce more than 90 percent of the world’s heating and cooling equipment.”
The associations also state in their policy that they are calling on the service industry to consider “the facts and to only use any refrigerant equipment where approved by the original equipment manufacturer.”
The nine HVAC associations who have joined forces to create this policy are the:
- Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Heating (ABRAVA)
- Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI)
- Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Manufacturers Association of Australia (AREMA)
- China Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Industry Association (CRAA)
- European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE)
- European Committee of Air-Handling, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Manufacturers (EUROVENT)
- Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI)
- Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA)
- Korea Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (KRAIA)
