The 43rd WorldSkills International Competition kicks off in Brazil today.
The WorldSkills International Competition is held every two years and is the biggest vocational education competition in the world. The competitors are selected from regional Competitions in WorldSkills member countries. The majority of the competitors are under 25 years of age.
This year’s WorldSkills International Competition will involve competitors competing in simulated real work challenges that must be completed to international standards of quality. In total there will be 1200 competitors from 63 countries competing in 50 skills categories, refrigeration and air conditioning being one of them.
The Australian WorldSkills team, the Skillaroos, for this year were announced in May. The Skillaroos consist of 25 apprentices, trainees and students working in various trades ranging from bakery to floristry to plumbing and heating to hairdressing and of course, refrigeration and air conditioning. Beau Kupris will be representing Australia in refrigeration and air conditioning.
The WorldSkills International Competition is being held at the Anhembi Exhibition Centre, Sao Paulo and concludes on Sunday. This year marks the first time that a WorldSkills Competition is being held in South America.
