AIRAH Building Code of Australia courses

AIRAH will be holding two courses on the Building Code of Australia (BCA) this year.

The first course, BCA Essentials, is a half-day course which will provide an overview of the National Construction Code (NCC) Volume One BCA (Class 2 to 9 buildings). This course is designed for graduate mechanical engineers with at least three years experience and mechanical services contractors with at least five years experience supervising mechanical service contracts. This course will cover several topics on state regulations and the BCA, alternative solutions for mechanical services, smoke hazard management and energy efficiency. This course will be held in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and WA from early September until mid-October. This courses costs $220 and $300 for AIRAH members and non-members to attend respectively.

The second course, BCA Design Compliance, is a one-day course which will address the workings of the BCA Volume 1 and how relevant Australian Standards are referenced in smoke hazard management systems and fire fighting equipment. This course is designed for mechanical design engineers, mechanical service contractors, building surveyors, council inspectors and project managers. This course will cover key topics, including but not limited to: Applicable Building Acts and regulations, BCA compliance framework, understanding the structure of the BCA, state and territory variations, the purpose of an Australian Standard and smoke hazard management provisions. This course is only delivered at workplaces for groups of 10 to 12 employees.
