ARCTick Licence Checklist for Technicians

Checklist 2

The year may be approaching the end, but summer is just about to begin. While most of us associate this time of year with going to the beach, walking in the sun, overeating at Christmas and partying on New Years, for technicians this time of year means completing their ARCTick licence checklist.

The ARC (Australian Refrigeration Council) administers the refrigeration and air conditioning licence scheme on behalf of the Australian Government and has been doing so since 2005. This involves providing licences and authorisation for the handling and trade of fluorocarbon refrigerant.

The purpose of the licence is that only qualified technicians are allowed to work with fluorocarbon refrigerant.

As well as a legal requirement, an ARCTick licence boosts consumer confidence as it proves that the technicians are professional as well as qualified to complete the job.

The ARCTick licence checklist can be found below:

1. Is your licence current or up for renewal soon? Make sure to re-apply before expiry to ensure you don’t have to apply ‘as new’ and provide your details and proof of qualifications again. Remember no authorisation and no licence means no gas.

2. Make sure your business is following the legal requirements of its authorisation: updated refrigerant records (quarterly–bought, sold, recovered), updated Air Con equipment list and maintenance records.

3. Ensure you have a current risk management plan for handling/storage of refrigerant

4. Ensure your refrigerant cyclinder leak test and test date records are current.

5. Notify the ARC of any changes to staff who hold a Refrigerant Handling licence and make sure to display your authorisation number on all air conditioning service advertising.

More information on the ARCTick licence, including where to check if a technician’s licence is valid can be found here. More information on ARC can be found on their website.
