Natural Disasters

Business.gov.au have published tips and resources to help business owners protect their businesses from the possibility of natural disasters.

Business.gov.au have published two articles on the subject, the first article focuses on free resources to help businesses plan and recover from natural disasters, while the second article emphasises the importance of a business having an emergency management plan and tips on how to make one, if a business owner doesn’t have one already.

The first article emphasises that natural disasters such as floods, fire and earthquakes can strike without warning so it’s important to make sure a business is resilient during a crisis. The article also emphasises that an emergency management plan can help businesses understand their strengths and weaknesses, put strategies in place to adapt to any scenario, and that they have the tools and support in place to help them get back to business if they are affected. The free resources that Business.gov.au provide include but are not limited to: emergency management and recovery information guides, an emergency management and recovery template and guide, and the MyBizShield app.

The first article can be read in full here.

The second article also emphasises the importance of a business having an emergency management plan, however it also provides key steps on how to make the plan. The key steps are: identifying potential risks to the business, how to deal with an emergency, identifying the key people to contact and places to get help, and putting the plan together using a specialised template, which Business.gov.au can provide.

The second article, as well as more information and resources, can be found here.
