Emerson have launched a refrigerant calculator to help retailers forecast the impacts of the phase down of high GWP systems.
According to Emerson’s media release, the calculator aims to help retailers “forecast the impacts of phasing down higher-GWP systems and phasing in new refrigerant architectures, assisting the transition to lower-GWP natural and synthetic refrigerant alternatives.”
The media release also states that the refrigerant calculator is a web-based app that helps a decision maker “to forecast the life cycle climate performance (LCCP) of a franchise or store based on preferred refrigeration architecture, as well as preferred refrigerants.”
The media release also states what information can be inputted into the refrigerant calculator to calculate the phase down impacts. This information includes: store design temperatures, store counts of currents and future architectures, leak rates, and refrigerant choice. Charts can also be downloaded from the calculator to demonstrate the phase down impacts, which include: total LCCP per franchise, total LCCP per store, weighted GWP per store, and total weighted GWP.
Andre Patenaude, Director of CO2 Business Development at Emerson’s Commercial and Residential Solutions platform, emphasised the benefits of the visual forecasts that the calculator provides for retailers.
“The calculator will be a valuable tool for retailers as they replace the common hydrofluorocarbons targeted for phase-down by the (U.S.) Environmental Protection Agency.
“It provides a visual forecast of the impacts of the phase-down and phase-in of new refrigerants and system architectures, and assists retailers in the assessment of total carbon footprint impacts and LCCP in a single store and across an enterprise.”
