Honeywell have announced that it has started full-scale commercial production of HFO-123ze, a low GWP material that is used as a refrigerant, as well as an aerosol propellant and insulating agent.
According to a media release from Honeywell, they the announcement last September that they would be increasing production of its low GWP refrigerants, insulation materials, aerosols and solvents. Honeywell also stated that this production will drive a 50 percent reduction in its production of high GWP HFCs on a CO2 equivalent basis by 2020.
Honeywell labels HFO-1234ze as a “next generation material” that is non-ozone depleting and non-flammable under UK flammability standards and testing and that it has a low GWP of less than one.
Honeywell markets HFO-1234ze under its Solstice line which includes: automobile air conditioning, propellant for aerosol applications, liquid & gas blowing agents for foam applications and industrial solvent performance fluid.
