This week is Stay Smart Online Week.
According to Business.gov.au, Stay Smart Online Week aims to raise awareness about online safety and security. This year’s theme is ‘cyber safety from the lounge room to the board room‘, which focuses on how a person’s online behaviour in their personal life can affect their professional one, and the need for organisations to engage with employees about online security awareness. Previous themes have included ‘Your business is YOUR business‘ and ‘On the Go‘.
Business.gov.au have provided tips for business owners to keep their business safe online both for the owners themselves and their employees. Their tips for business owners include: developing a privacy policy, having online security as part of their business plan, keeping insurance and security software updated, and protecting data via back-ups. Their tips for business owners on how to teach staff to be safe online include: creating strong passwords, not opening suspicious links, installing security software, maintaining awareness of computer and device functions and providing regular online security training.
The Stay Smart Online official website provides extensive information on how to stay smart online for both business owners and the general public. The information on offer includes: a free internet alert service on online threats and how to deal with them, an online safety small business guide, how to protect and secure computers & mobile devices, protecting your identity, using social media & making online payments safely and cyberbullying.
