AIRAH Awards 2016 Finalists announced

This year’s finalists for the AIRAH Awards have been announced.

The Awards consist of several categories covering different aspects of the industry from innovation to sustainability, retrofitting, upgrading, solar energy, technicality and research. The Awards finalists and eventual winners also range from students to leaders with many years of experience in the industry. This year’s categories are: AIRAH Future Leader Award, Student of the Year Award, AIRAH’s Award for Excellence in Innovation, Product of the Year Award, Best HVAC&R Retrofit or Upgrade Award, AIRAH’s Award for Excellence in Sustainability and the WR Ahern Award.

The finalists for the AIRAH Future Leader Award are: Jesse Clarke from CSR, Carlos Flores from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Amnon Holland from ESIBS, Jeremy Osborne from EnergyAE, Brett Saunders from Hiflow Industries and Leon Wurfel from Bueno.

The finalists for the Student of the Year Award are: Aaron Hoare from A.G. Coombs, Michael Snook from Centigrade and Xiaolin Wang from ANU.

The finalists for AIRAH’s Award for Excellence in Innovation are: LendLease for its work on the Barangaroo South District Cooling Plant, Lommers Engineering for its High-Performance Cluster Cooling Systems Solution, The Frame Group’s Sydney Data Centre Modernisation Project and Norman Disney & Young for its efforts on the Australian Federal Police Forensics Facility at Majura.

The finalists for the Product of the Year Award, which was established last year, are: the PoolPac Plus from AirChange, the Omni BEMS Controller from Innotech, the X-Operative TAB from Fast Works, the Eco HWP from Temperzone and the Hux Connect from Hux.

The finalists for the Best HVAC&R Retrofit or Upgrade Award are: Cundall’s Burwood Campus Thermal Upgrade, IrwinConsult’s work on the Glaxo SmithKline Blow Fill Seal Facility, Norman Disney & Young’s work on the Westpac Kogarah Refurbishment, Refrigeration Innovation’s work on the IGA Boccaccio Cellars and Westside Group’s work for the UniSA Playford and Bonython Jubilee.

The finalists for AIRAH’s Award for Excellence in Sustainability are: City Holdings for Coles Coburg North, Floth for their work in Fortitude Valley, Steensen Varming for the Warship Pavilion (Australian National Maritime Museum) and Umow Lai for the University of Melbourne’s School of Design.

AIRAH’s media release states that the WR Ahern Award “is awarded to the best technical paper by an AIRAH member published in Ecolibrium over the previous year.” This year, six papers are in contention for the WR Ahern Award.

The AIRAH Awards 2016 will be held on November 10 at Luna Park in Sydney, more information can be found here.
